Now, as part of the investment in eastern Slavonia, as emphasized by the Government project, but also by insisting May 2019 Calendar Word himself, HŽ decided to invest part of the funds in the modernization of the railway infrastructure in this part of Croatia. Since the railway station in Osijek has been registered in the Register of Cultural Property of the Republic of Croatia, the List of Protected Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia, the reconstruction is planned very demanding. Conservation and restoration research, conceptual and main projects, as well as a performance project have been made. The project envisages reconstruction of the building, more precisely, roof, facades, as well as interior decoration – said the Communications Department of HŽ Infrastruktura. This means that besides the new facade and the roof the building will also receive a new sanitary space, modernized waiting room and wardrobe, and a catering area. Although Mayor Vrkić it did so three years ago, and the subsequent support of the project was also given by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, it has not yet begun its realization. As the land in Gacka owned by the Agricultural Institute Osijek, it is necessary to replace the land between the Institute and the City, which is still not formally done, although the two sides mentioned, as they told us at the Institute, reached an agreement and are still awaiting the consent of the Ministry science and education.

Let’s say that today’s building of the main station was built in 1870, but it soon became too small, so in 1873 they sought the means for its extension, which was not until 1898. The project of the expansion of the Upper Town Column was carried out by Hungarian architect Ferenc Pfaff, who designed and the station in Zagreb, Rijeka, Karlovac and other big cities of the Monarchy.
