A total of 17 of them are the cream of Croatian young chemists because they are the best of the best that links the love of chemistry and the desire to learn more. This is a unique six-day education program that is organised in February 2019 Calendar Spanish collaboration with the Ruđer Bovine Institute and the Croatian Society of Chemical Engineers and technologists, and this year the program included the Student Choir of the University of Rijeka, more precisely the students of the Department of Biotechnology. What this year’s Summer School of Chemistry differs from the earliest largest number of participants coming from Varaždin, Split, Karlovac, Walkover, Zagreb, Koprivnica, Slavonski Brod, Osijek and Rijeka. Some of them found the Summer School for the first time, but some have a period of participation because the Natural Science and Graphic School also organises winter education, all under the guidance of doc. dr. Tomislava Portage from the Ruđer Bovine Institute. Each school has a different program, and the initial and advanced groups are being attended by students who are not the first to participate in education. This summer we have the largest number of entries so far and most likely it will happen that soon we will not be able to receive all the interested ones, but we will have to introduce the selection.

Every day, under their leadership, the best Croatian young chemists acquire new knowledge from the morning till the late afternoon hours, while their evening is reserved for socialising and exploring Rijeka. Most of the students attending the Summer School of Chemistry have heard of their friends, such as Barbara Summit, a middle-school student in Split, who sees participation in this week’s education as a good preparation for competitions, as they are students with a large number of competitions already holding bronze and silver from European and world as well as the first places in national competitions.
The school program works promising and I believe it will help me prepare for February 2019 Calendar Spanish the competition. My friends told me that the school was great and that it provided excellent practice and exercise. Now I’m in the third grade of high school and I believe that education will continue in the field of natural sciences beyond the Croatian borders. My wish is to study in one of the European countries, because I’m interested in how things look outside, and I think they’re out there better, Barbara reveals.
